Hi, I’m Sharon Ona, MS, CNS, LDN

I’m a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) who combines science-based training with a practical, supportive approach to help people improve their health and energy through diet and lifestyle.

My Background

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies with a focus on sustainable food systems and went on to spend nearly 10 years working as a care manager in both naturopathic and allopathic clinics, where my interest in science and nutrition grew. I earned my Master of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine from the University of Western States and became a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) after completing more than 1,000 hours of clinical supervision and passing a rigorous national board exam. I love learning and am in constant pursuit of expanding my knowledge in the nutrition and functional medicine field.

My Journey to Private Practice

Shortly after my training, I opened Sharon Ona Functional Nutrition LLC, where I help people address and find symptom relief from chronic health conditions like Type 2 Diabetes, insulin resistance, high cholesterol, fatty liver disease, PCOS, and constipation, to name a few. My interest in nutrition started early—I grew up going to farmers’ markets and was surrounded by fresh, local foods as a child and young adult while simultaneously watching family members struggle with chronic health conditions, including blood sugar dysregulation, pain, and respiratory issues that I wished I could heal. Those experiences drove my curiosity about how the body works and the concept of food as medicine, both of which continue to motivate my work today.

What I Do

I’ve successfully helped clients lower their A1c, reduce pain, improve energy levels, eliminate brain fog, finally have normal bowel movements, and return to active lifestyles.

I bridge holistic and conventional medicine approaches, drawing on my decade of experience in both settings. My aim is to provide guidance and support while helping my clients figure out eating patterns that help them feel their best physically and emotionally. Clients describe my approach as supportive, friendly, empowering, and educational—rooted in science and delivered with care. I combine clinical training and a national board certification with real-life, practical tools that make nutrition manageable day-to-day.

My Approach

I take time to listen and help people problem-solve in creative ways. I value progress over perfection and believe small, consistent steps lead to lasting change.

I approach food, nutrition, and health with a dose of levity—talking with me in session is often described as being like talking to a trusted friend. I provide a judgment-free space where clients can feel comfortable and supported while receiving clear, evidence-based guidance.
